A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered their time
to help the Novi Goodfellows raise money, buy gifts and deliver its promise
to around 45 families and 100 children this year.
We will be back to work again in December 2010. Our goal is to increase the distribution of
gifts to as many families in need as possible.
Please watch this space for times and dates if you would like to help.
We also have a donation site with a link (located up and to the right). This site is available all year around for those who wish to donate money through a secure 'PayPal' server site.
Thanks again from the Novi Goodfellows!
Schedule of events 2010 Goodfellows:
Novi Goodfellows - Board of Directors
Each year, just a few weeks before Christmas, ANFF volunteers team up with the Goodfellows and go to work. The Goodfellows mission is to raise money to buy Christmas gifts for families in need during the holiday season. Goodfellow volunteers go out in the streets with firefighter boots (used to collect money in) and Goodfellow newspapers in hand. The Goodfellows objective is to appeal to the kindness and generosity of passing car drivers (and occupants) to donate some coins or bills to the Goodfellows Christmas fund in exchange for a newspaper. After the money has been collected, it is delivered to an accounting crew who sort and count the donations.
Next, a shopping crew heads to a local store (Meijer's in Wixom) taking with them Christmas wish lists that are used to select the gifts families have requested. When all of the shopping is completed, the gifts go to a central location for a wrapping crew to go to work. Wrapped gifts are coded by family and sent to a nominated collection location a few days before Christmas. Finally, all of the Goodfellow volunteers are rewarded for their hard work when the gifts and generous food hampers are handed to the families. The smiles on the faces from the spirit of giving makes Christmas extra special for all those involved.
As the Christmas season approaches, look out for the Goodfellows out and about in the streets of Novi.
Special recognition goes out to ANFF member FF. Mark Pehrson, who does an outstanding job directing the Goodfellows volunteer program every year.
